Say goodbye to paper tickets and hello to smart tickets!

MetroSmart is Merseytravel's smartcard website where you can buy your train tickets online. The train tickets currently available to buy on www.metro-smart.org are Merseyrail Only Railpass and Saveaway, see details below.

Before you buy your ticket online you will first need a Smartcard (a MetroCard or a Walrus card). If you don't have one, pop along to a Merseyrail station or a Merseytravel Travel Centre where staff will issue one for just £1. 

Once you have your Smartcard you are ready to create your account on www.metro-smart.org and purchase your tickets from the comfort of your own home. 

Merseyrail Only Railpass

The Merseyrail Only Railpass gives you unlimited travel, you can make as many journeys as you want on any day of the week from the start to the end of service. You can buy one to cover a week, a month or even a year. 

You only pay for the zones and areas you travel in, so if you only travel on the Merseyrail Northern and/or Wirral lines, the Merseyrail Only Railpass works out cheaper than the existing Railpass ticket which also includes the City line.

Saveaway

This one day ticket can be used on bus, train and ferry, offering you the flexibility to choose which modes of transport best suit your travel needs. 

Tickets are valid for unlimited travel within your chosen area before 6.30am and after 9.30am Monday to Friday and all day Saturday, Sundays and Bank Holidays. For more details on which ferry services a Saveaway ticket is valid on please click here.

Alternatively, if you are only planning to travel by train, our Day Saver is a better option.

Other ticket options

Other tickets are available through our staffed ticket offices and TVMs to suit your journey, including a Flexi-Ticket that is valid for 3 return journeys in a 7 day period, a Day Saver which offers unlimited off-peak travel across the Merseyrail network and a Family Ticket which also offers unlimited off-peak travel for 2 adults and up to 3 children.

Please note that the National Rail Flexi Season ticket cannot be used for travel on the Merseyrail network. For more information on the Merseyrail Flexi-Ticket click here.
