Merseyrail Ladies FC have soared to success being crowned champions of the North West Women’s Premier Division.
They will begin next season in the FA Women’s National League Division One North – the fourth tier of English women’s football.
There they will play against the likes of Newcastle United and Leeds United – a great achievement following a spectacular season.
Merseyrail Ladies FC was formed in 2013 and is well on its way to becoming the largest women’s football club in the North West not attached to a male club.
Their stadium - Admiral Park in Toxteth - is the first stadium not to be affiliated with a men’s club, and they are sponsored by local rail operator Merseyrail.
Lee Austin, Manager of Merseyrail Ladies FC, said: “I was the assistant manager at this club the last time we won a league title.
“After four years away and the club being at the place it was and us coming back and giving it that little push and revitalisation to get it moving forward again, to achieve my dream in the first season is pretty special.”
“I’ve always thought that if you put a solid foundation in, you create an environment where everyone feels that they’re playing a part.
“They’re [the players] trusting with what you’re trying to achieve and, more importantly, that they’re part of something. You’re not just doing it for a kickabout or a game of football, you’re part of a bigger aspiration and you’re playing your part in, not just the now, but what the future holds for the club.”
Jane English, People Director at Merseyrail, said: “We are very proud to sponsor such a high-achieving and developing club as Merseyrail Ladies FC.
“Winning the league title is a great achievement and a true testament to the hard work of everyone at the club and the investment made in ensuring Merseyrail Ladies continues with this success.
“Working with and improving the local community is at the heart of what we do at Merseyrail – and this partnership is just one of the ways we do this.”
