How to purchase a Railpass

One quick application form to start saving on your regular train travel!

To purchase a Railpass, simply download and complete the relevant application form at the bottom of this page and take it to any of our staffed stations, along with a passport-size photo and some form of identification. You can also pick up a Railpass application form from any staffed Merseyrail station. 

If you are purchasing a Term Time pass you will need to provide proof that you are in full-time education with a valid student card or by getting your application stamped by your education provider. 

Railpasses can be renewed quickly and easily at any of our staffed stations and weekly passes can be renewed from any of the ticket machines located at various stations on our network. 

Merseyrail Only Railpass now available online

Forget paper season tickets, use a MetroSmart card and buy your Merseyrail Only Railpass online in a few simple steps.

The Merseyrail Only Railpass gives you unlimited travel and you can buy one to cover a week, a month or even a year. You only pay for the zones and areas you travel in, so if you only travel on the Merseyrail Northern and/or Wirral lines, the Merseyrail Only Railpass works out cheaper than the existing Railpass ticket which also includes the City line. 

To buy online you first need to buy a Smartcard from a Merseyrail ticket office or a Merseytravel travel centre, they cost £1. You may already have a MetroCard (previously called the Walrus card), and if so you don't need to get a new one to buy tickets online. 

Visit www.metro-smart.org.uk and click register to create your account. You'll be sent a confirmation email with a link to confirm your account. Once registered you can login and quickly link your Smartcard to your account.

You're then all set to buy your Merseyrail Only Railpass online.
