- Station retailer gets the customer vote
- More than 1,000 passengers have their say
In Merseyrail’s second achievements awards, Andy Dodd, station retailer at Hamilton Square, was named the winner in the Merseyrail star category, which only passengers can vote in.
We were delighted that so many passengers chose to take part, and it’s clear that lots of staff really do a great job and make a positive impression on our customers, which is just as it should be

One customer said: ‘Andy is an absolute rock star: such a friendly demeanour, greets you with a smile and friendly open body language. He doesn’t just serve you, but delivers a solution, offers not just one solution but a range of possible solutions. Left me feeling better when leaving the station than when I arrived. He is incredible and credit to the company.’
Andy, who is 24 and has worked at Merseyrail for three years, said: ‘I always try to deliver excellent customer service and really value the interaction with passengers, so it a great honour to be recognised in this way. Just recently, I helped a customer travelling with a lot of luggage, and a few days later, she brought in a present to thank me, which was really kind of her.’
More than 1,000 passengers voted in the Merseyrail Star category, which was brought in for the first time this year. Customers were encouraged to have their say on a particular member of staff who had offered great customer service, impressed them by the way they had done their job, handled a difficult situation, or helped them out in some way.
Jane English, director of human resources at Merseyrail, said: ‘We were delighted that so many passengers chose to take part, and it’s clear that lots of staff really do a great job and make a positive impression on our customers, which is just as it should be.’
The ceremony took place last month at the Liverpool metropolitan cathedral.
Thank you very much to all our passengers who nominated a member of staff, we were overwhelmed by your positive feedback.
