From Monday 18 May, Merseyrail will be increasing services on the network, including reinstating some services before 07:00 and after 19:00, Monday – Saturday. Services will continue to run between approximately 08:00 – 20:00 on Sundays.
From the 4th December, as part of our move towards smart ticketing, we will be rolling out Walrus cards across our network, starting with Hillside, Birkdale and Ainsdale. These stations will be upgraded to sell smart tickets which will be issued onto Walrus cards.
Currently only Saveaway and Solo are available as a smart product and there will be no charge for Walrus cards.
We will be undertaking a phased roll out of Walrus cards across our network, and stations will be upgraded at different times – so please keep an eye out for posters at your station which will tell you when your station is selling smart Saveaways.
Merseytravel are also launching a £1 card activation fee for their Walrus cards – details of which can be found on posters at stations, so please remember to keep your Walrus card for future purchases.
The changes being introduced have been summarised below:
- Smart Saveaways will be sold from Merseyrail stations. Paper Saveaways will no longer be available.
- Smart Saveaways are available to purchase for use today or tomorrow only, with the option being selected at the point of sale.
- Walrus Cards will be subject to a £1 activation fee. Customers are encouraged to keep their card for future purchases.
