Merseyrail partners with Liverpool Echo for annual Environment Awards

As part of our vision to deliver a world class railway to our local region, Merseyrail is committed to providing a sustainable, carbon friendly transport system.
Our involvement in this award underlines our commitment to improving the region’s environmental performance. Electric railways like ours represent a greener way of moving around Merseyside, with a far smaller carbon footprint, and less polluting congestion, compared to the private car.Managing Director
This is why we have joined forces with the Liverpool Echo for its 7th annual Environment Awards, which celebrates individuals who make Merseyside a greater, greener place to be.
These awards provide the opportunity for business, community groups, schools and individuals across the region to shout about how they are helping to keep our city green and sustainable.
Jan Chaudhry-van der Velde, Merseyrail’s managing director commented: “Our involvement in this award underlines our commitment to improving the region’s environmental performance.
“Electric railways like ours represent a greener way of moving around Merseyside, with a far smaller carbon footprint, and less polluting congestion, compared to the private car.
“The project to deliver new trains from 2019, which we're working on with partners Merseytravel and Network Rail, will give further environmental benefits such as regenerative braking, where electricity is fed back into the grid when trains apply the brakes.
“These initiatives illustrate our genuine desire to continually enhance our service in a sustainable way, supporting the growth and success of the local economy.”
In conjunction with the Liverpool Echo, we are calling on organisations across Merseyside to tell us what they have been doing over the past 12 months to make our city a greener and healthier place to live and work.
There are 10 awards available and they are completely free to enter, and no project is too big or too small, just tell us about it.
Simply visit the website http://www.echoenvironmentawards.co.uk/to download a copy of the entry form, complete it by telling us which category you want to enter and tell all about your green initiative, then send your completed entry by email to [email protected]
The successful shortlist of nominees will be chosen by an expert panel of judges after the closing date in February. All shortlisted nominees will have the opportunity to attend a fantastic awards ceremony which will be held at the beautiful Isla Gladstone Conservatory on Thursday, April 27, 2017, where winners in each category will be revealed on the night.
