No hurdles for Grand National racegoers thanks to Merseyrail's outstanding service

More than 103,000 journeys were made by racegoers travelling to and from The Grand National Festival at Aintree Racecourse thanks to a dedicated timetable that saw a seven-and-a-half-minute service. Merseyrail once again supported the world-famous sporting festival, giving away 5,000 pairs of its famous flip flops, delivering live music and entertainment to customers at Moorfields, Liverpool Central and Aintree stations - as well as introducing the extra services to get people to and from the event.

Double success at Cheshire Best Kept Stations awards event

Two Merseyrail stations have been recognised in the prestigious Cheshire’s Best Kept Stations Awards. Hoylake station scooped the prize for best station in Wirral for a second year in a row, while Meols station secured the Best Kept Gardens award, having claimed the ‘In Bloom’ title last year. Hoylake station was praised as busy and spacious, while being graced with classic art deco design. Meols was hailed for the work that had transformed a commuter station with skilfully planted beds and planters.

As the Metro Mayor recently announced, Merseyrail are working in partnership with the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority to develop a Tap & Go ticketing system which will be rolled out across Merseyrail’s Northern and Wirral lines.

Liverpool Central station celebrates 150 years of public transport service

Liverpool Central station, which serves both the Wirral and Northern lines on the Merseyrail network, is celebrating its 150th birthday this week. Today the station is the busiest in Liverpool, and the second busiest station in the North West of England behind only Manchester Piccadilly. With more than 11m journeys made from the station in 2023, it is the tenth busiest station outside of London in the United Kingdom.

Bebington community group teams up with Merseyrail to make a difference

Two Wirral stations are getting a makeover thanks to the hard work of a local community group who have teamed up with Merseyrail and a number of local schools. The Love Bebington community group recently adopted Bebington and Spital stations. Working in partnership with Merseyrail, work to transform both train stations is well underway.

Charity fundraiser's incredible Merseyrail challenge

Centre 56’s Fundraising Officer, Alex Rigby, is hoping to raise £20,000 for the charity through his ultra-marathon challenge on 10 February. Centre 56 provides specialist nursery care for children aged 0-12 years who have experienced domestic abuse or crisis situations. A big welcome is planned at the final station, Kirkdale, from 17:30 to help encourage Alex as he reaches the finish line.

Merseyrail to support four more local charities

Merseyrail has announced the four charities it will be supporting for the next two years through events, promotions, and network wide collections. The charities that will be supported over the next two years have been chosen after being nominated by staff across the network. They are Centre 56, Rescue Me Animal Sanctuary, Blackburne House and Parkinson’s Wirral.
