Merseyrail are delighted, for the third year running, to be the Executive Sponsor of Liverpool Echo Environment Awards.
As part of our vision to deliver a world-class railway to our local region, Merseyrail is committed to providing an affordable, greener and connected transport system. We are proud to operate in the City Region and it’s important to us that we are part of it, protect it and contribute to it.
These awards, recognise the fantastic contribution the people of Merseyside make towards a healthier, greener, connected region. The Liverpool Echo Environment Awards is a key event and is your opportunity to showcase all the excellent work you have been doing over the past year. It’s time to shout out about it!
Merseyrail itself has been recognised in 2018 for our environment and community successes being awarded the Sustainable Development Award at the prestigious National Rail Awards. The judges commended Merseyrail as an excellent example of how a train operator can become an integral part of the community it serves and the mutual benefits that can be achieved through commitment to sustainable business practices.
Cath Johnston, Head of Sustainability commented ‘Merseyrail is pleased to be sponsoring the Green Business of the Year category for the seventh year running. As part of our vision to deliver a world-class railway to our local region, Merseyrail is committed to providing an affordable, greener and connected transport system.
We are looking forward to reviewing all the entries in this category which I am sure will showcase the best and greenest businesses in the region, who like Merseyrail are ‘green’ as an integral part of the company with excellent green behaviours demonstrated throughout.’
Sally Ralston, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager commented ‘Merseyrail is committed to supporting and inspiring our employees to make positive lifestyle changes and raising awareness of health and wellbeing initiatives. We focus on four areas covering physical, mental, financial and social wellbeing. Helping our employees to become active, fit and healthy whilst keeping them informed and educated on these areas, is extremely important to the business.
We also have volunteers from several of our station community partnerships across our network planting fruit, vegetables and herbs for rail users and neighbours to collect. Several charities and community organisations from the region have also attended our stations to promote awareness to our customers on a variety of health and wellbeing initiatives. These have included mental health awareness, heart health and literacy. Therefore we are delighted to be the sponsor of the Healthy Living Award in 2019.’
