Summer finally looks to be on the way, with temperatures beginning to rise. This can pose a challenge for the railway, sometimes making travel uncomfortable and occasionally disrupting our train services.

Together with colleagues from Network Rail, we are preparing as much as possible to deal with the hot weather so we can provide the most reliable train service across the Merseyrail network.

Advice for travelling in hot weather

Travelling in extreme heat can often be uncomfortable, especially during peak hours. Keeping hydrated is one of the best ways to stay comfortable. We therefore advise our customers to stay hydrated and carry water with them while travelling. Liverpool Central and Liverpool South Parkway stations have free bottle refill locations. Water and other soft drinks are also available at our Mtogo stores.

Our new fleet of trains do have climate control functionality, but it is always worthwhile carrying a fan.

If you are feeling unwell then please leave the train at the next staffed station or speak to a Train Manager onboard so we can arrange help for you.

Our services do get busier on sunny days, especially on the Southport line, with customers making the most of the fantastic beach locations available on our network. Please allow more time for your journey when travelling.
