There's nothing better than getting out in the crisp fresh air when the sun makes an appearance in the spring months.
We're lucky to have plenty of beautiful local routes to choose from in Merseyside, from woodland wanders, to a stroll by the River Mersey or a walk along the beach. Below are some of our favourites spots to get some fresh air, all within a short walk from a Merseyrail station.

West Kirby Marine Lake
Not only does West Kirby offer stunning views of the Welsh coastline, the beautiful stroll along the edge of the saltwater lake will make you feel like you're walking on water. Watch the sailboats and windsurfers as you make your way out along the path with water on both sides of you. Restaurants and shops line the promenade, handy for warming up with a bite to eat after your walk.

Sefton Park
If you have not yet seen Sefton Park on an early spring morning, you need to! A magical scene unfolds by the lake that you can circuit around before exploring the woodier areas around the well-kept 200 acre park.
Why not complete your walk at Lark Lane where you can pick up a coffee at some of the many independent restaurants and cafes on offer.

Chester City Walls
A different option to a countryside walk but with just as impressive views. Chester's city walls are the oldest and longest in Britain and the complete route is a great way to experience Chester for the first time or discover new areas. Free to walk and surrounded by Chester's amazing choice of restaurants and bars, you'll be spoilt for choice for a post walk lunch.

New Brighton Seafront
There is everything you need for a day in the fresh cold air at New Brighton. Not only is it a stunning coastline, mini adventurers will love New Brighton beach with the famous Black Pearl shipwreck. If it does get a bit chilly there are lots of indoor destinations on the doorstep at Marine Point, including The Light cinema where you can catch the latest blockbuster in luxurious comfort.

Ainsdale Nature Reserve
Just a few minutes' walk from Ainsdale station, here there are several colour coded paths winding through the pine woods and sandy dunes. Picnic benches are dotted along the main paths for the perfect outdoors pit stop. Popular with young families and keen cyclists, the paths are suitable for all.
Ainsdale is also an amazing conservation area for wildlife that is still visible in the spring months.

Otterspool Promenade
The Otterspool Promenade provides beautiful views across the River Mersey, especially on a bright spring day. Popular with walkers, cyclists and also kite flyers! At the end of the prom and just an 8-minute walk from Aigburth train station you'll find the Otterspool Adventure Centre with wooden play equipment and delicious homemade cakes in the cafe.

Formby Pine Woods
Fresh and scenic walks amongst the sweeping costal pinewoods and dramatic sand dunes are sure to get put you in a good mood! Enjoy the breath-taking views towards the sea and sand dunes. If you are lucky you might also just spot some of the red squirrels or natterjack toads!
