Phase 2 - Monday to Friday

It was previously advertised that during Phase 2, between Monday and Friday, bikes could be taken cross-river by train. For safety reasons, this is no longer possible at busy times.

13 – 17 February

For safety reasons, it will not be possible to travel cross-river between Hamilton Square and James Street, from 07:00 to 09:00 and 16:00 to 18:00, Monday to Friday. This is because only one platform will be in use at James Street station during this time.

If you are travelling towards Liverpool, please alight at Hamilton Square where you can either catch the Bike Bus (timetable below) or a Mersey Ferry by cycling on to Seacombe.

If you are travelling towards Wirral, you can catch the Bike Bus (timetable below) from Exchange Street, close to Moorfields station or a Mersey Ferry from the Pier Head, and board the train at Hamilton Square

20 February – 29 May

Due to the number of passengers using James Street station, bikes will not be allowed on Platform 1 at James Street between 07:00 - 09:00 and 16:00 - 18:00, Monday to Friday. If you are travelling from New Brighton or West Kirby with a bike, you will have to change at Hamilton Square onto the next train which will have come from Chester and will go into Platform 2 at James Street.

Outside of the peak time restrictions, you can travel with a bike to either platform at James Street, however you must be able to carry your bike upstairs unaided.

Phase 1, Phase 3 and the weekends of Phase 2

Wirral line services will start and terminate at Birkenhead North and Birkenhead Central. Rail replacement buses will run between Birkenhead and Liverpool.

Rail replacement buses will not carry bikes. If you need to travel with a bike, please see the information on Bike Bus, Mersey Ferries and Cycle Storage below.
