Young Person’s tickets are now available for 16, 17 and 18 year old's offering better value and more affordable travel.

Following changes to the law meaning young people must stay in education or work based training until their 18th Birthday, Merseyrail have made changes to their ticket products to bring more affordable travel to younger passengers.

Passengers aged 18 years or under can now buy Young Person’s Railpass and Day Saver tickets for travel in the Merseyside area.

16 -18 ID

If you're lucky enough to be 16-18, you'll need to prove it if you want to buy a Young Person's ticket.

Don't miss out on great savings. Make sure you have one of the following forms of ID to prove that you are aged 16-18. ID is required every time you purchase a ticket and please carry it with you to show when your ticket is checked during your journey.

  • Driving licence (includes provisional)
  • Passport
  • 16 -17 Railcard
  • Merseyrail ID - details below
  • Yoti

What is Yoti?

Yoti is a free app that creates a digital ID on your phone. It takes minutes to set up, using a driving licence or passport and a photo to confirm your date of birth, and means that you always have your ID with you.

Once you have set up your ID, simple open the app and tap on the ID Card button and select Date of Birth to show to the staff member when purchasing your train ticket.

You can download Yoti for free on the Apple app store here and the Google Play store here

Yoti has now joined forces with both Post Office and Lloyds Bank and so there are two more ID apps that you can use as proof of age.

The three apps (Yoti ID, Post Office EasyID and Lloyds Bank Smart ID) make up Digital ID Connect which you can read more about here.

Merseyrail ID

Merseyrail can also provide you with a free Merseyrail ID Card. If you would like a Merseyrail ID card, just take your valid ID (listed above), plus a passport sized photo to the station and a staff member will issue you the card straight away.
